While I was writing INTO THE BLUE, my family and I took a trip to Hawaii. Research is tough… One day we drove around the island of Oahu to North Beach, where the majority of my novel is set. It was this sneaky under the skin feeling of happiness to be there. It looks unlike any other place.
We stopped at Sunset Beach. Pipeline.
Windswept and stormy and a row of houses, any of which my characters could live in.
Pipe wasn’t turning itself into tubes, but there was a lone surfer out there. I’ll never know who he was but for that moment he was every surfer in my book, but especially Tai and Ollie out on the ocean for just one more wave.
